There is no age limit on learning; senior cats can learn too! As long as your senior cat is food-motivated, you can train them.
We have many kitten students that started learning as early as ten weeks. There are many benefits to beginning a training routine with your kitten, including providing a positive outlet for energy, teaching self-control to prevent biting and developing a strong bond. Puppy owners are encouraged to train their puppies right from the start; the same should be true for kitten owners.
We improve a cat's response to nail trims with a different method. Click here to view our nail trim course.
Teaching your cat to wear a harness does not involve clicker training. However, teaching your cat to walk on a leash does. We encourage students to combine our harness training course with this clicker training program. In this program, students will learn how to train their cat indoors in a quiet environment and gradually add outdoor distractions to continue the training.
There is a section in the online course dedicated to working with more than one cat. Within are offered multiple methods & included in the course is support from cat teacher Julie in case you're having any issues.
This course is for any cat lovers who would like to build a better relationship with their cats, have some fun, and help reduce unwanted behaviour. The program does not focus on stopping naughty behaviour or teaching the cat to respond to the word 'NO.' Instead, we teach and reward alternative, more appropriate behaviours.
Designed by a certified applied animal behaviorist, this program is based on scientific methods of learning. Finally, you can ignore the bad advice on the internet and learn proper training techniques.
There is a misconception that teaching cats tricks is degrading animals, like in the circus. Animals in the circus are forced to participate to avoid punishment. Clicker training is 100% optional for your cat; your cat is free to join in this game. Tricks can be skills, they are all the same according to your cat. They won't know that sit-stay is for practical reasons and rollover is for fun. To your cat, it's time spent together learning. An active cat will enjoy learning active tricks, while some cats may like problem-solving games like finding which cup has a treat. Your cat can always choose to participate. The more skills you teach your cat, the more fun (and harder) the game becomes. If you are still not sure, check out our youtube channel (www.youtube.com/catschool) and see if your cat enjoys participating with you in the training games that are posted there.
Tricks build confidence. Tricks are fun. They will enrich the lives of indoor cats, increase your bond with your cat, and give them a physical outlet for their energy.
